1927- 2024
Lexington- On April 27, 2024, Mildred Backman Ricard, daughter of the late William Lee Backman and Cora Estelle Shull, passed into eternity with our Heavenly Father.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Ricard; her daughter, Pam (John) Hamilton; and 4 grandchildren, Tracy (Donna) Ricard of Greenville, SC, Jody (Stephanie) Ricard of Lexington, SC, Manda (Jeff) Barefoot of Hartsville, SC and Jonathan (Christina) Hamilton Griffin of GA and granddaughter-in-law, Carrie Skaggs of Anniston, AL. She had 11 great-grandchildren; Hudson, Perry-Jayne, Maddie, Toby, Madison, Annie, Sammy, and Macey-Grace Ricard, Alex-Faith Kendrick (Connally), Bennett Barefoot and Charlotte Hamilton. In addition to her husband (Oda Ricard) and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cory Ricard.
Visitation will be at 1 pm with funeral services to begin at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 all to be held at First Calvary Baptist Church, Leesville, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church for many years teaching Sunday School, working with GA’s and being used by the Lord wherever she could serve. Mrs. Ricard later stepped out with her husband to help start a new church, becoming a founding member of Lake Murray Baptist Church in Lexington, SC. She was a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, worked with the Mission Friends and assisted with making costumes for the drama, “This Man Called Jesus”. She later joined New Life Baptist Church where she was presently a member. She truly was a woman that loved the Lord, His Word, and God’s people.
The family wishes to say thanks for the thoughtful and loving care of 3 Oaks Hospice, Francis Vann, and Sandhill’s Family Medicine. We want to thank all for the many visits, flowers and gifts bestowed on her before her passing. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Calvary Baptist Church or New Life Baptist Church.
